Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is often recommended immediately after a hysterectomy to counter the sudden onset of menopausal symptoms and protect long-term health.

If your surgery occurred within the past 10 years — or if you’ve remained on HRT continuously since — starting or continuing HRT is is typically both safe and effective.

However, initiating HRT more than a decade after a hysterectomy in someone who has never used HRT is not advised; in such cases, it's recommended that patients explore alternative symptom-management strategies instead.
