The hormonal IUD releases a small amount of the hormone progestin into the body over several years. Progestin is the synthetic version of progesterone, a hormone naturally produced by the body.
Winona only prescribes bioidentical progesterone, but there are no contraindications to using an IUD alongside HRT. Both can be used at the same time.
HRT replenishes some or all of the hormones the body stops producing during the menopause transition, helping to manage symptoms. However, it does not prevent pregnancy.
