Testosterone is a controlled substance that can create unwanted side effects, so it mandates restrictions around its use. That said, Winona does not prescribe testosterone.

While we don't offer testosterone therapy, we do provide DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) therapy as a safer alternative with similar benefits.

DHEA is a hormone precursor which is broken down into estrogen and testosterone in the body. It's a safe, legal way to gently raise testosterone levels. Winona physicians are careful to prescribe DHEA in dosages that greatly reduce the risk of testosterone side effects.

DHEA is prescribed by our physicians on a case-by-case basis after evaluating a patient's medical history and symptoms.
