Does hormone replacement therapy increase body hair growth?

Winona prescribes estrogen and progesterone in various forms, at the lowest dose for the greatest benefit. Excessive doses of hormones can result in unwanted side effects like increased hair growth. We implore patients to only take hormones at the levels prescribed by their Winona physician.

We also offer DHEA, which is a gentle way to increase testosterone levels, but we do not prescribe testosterone directly. Too much testosterone can result in "hirsutism" or excessive growth of hair on the face. But DHEA is provided at clinically-safe and appropriate levels, which should not cause excess hair growth.

โ€‹Hirsutism should not be a result of taking estrogen, progesterone, or DHEA as prescribed by our Winona physicians.
