Our bioidentical HRT creams are one of the most popular and easiest ways to use hormone therapy!
Using a cream on your skin is called transdermal dosing, which means the medication is absorbed directly through the skin and is distributed systemically throughout the body. Patches and ointments are also other examples of transdermal dosing.
Where should the cream be applied?
HRT cream should be applied topically to an area of skin that is free of hair follicles, excluding the face and breasts. We recommend using the forearms, because you can rub them together to avoid getting the cream on your hands. But the inner thigh is another good option. Make sure the chosen area is clean, dry, and free of lotions or oils, as they can prevent the cream from penetrating your skin.
Push down firmly and securely on the pump until you dispense a pea-sized amount of cream. A single dose is considered 2 pumps in most cases, but your Winona doctor will provide you instructions on your specific dose. Massage the cream into your skin for 5-10 seconds until fully absorbed.
We also offer vaginal estrogen cream, which is applied locally to the vaginal tissue. Winona's vaginal estrogen cream comes with an applicator and an instructional insert detailing how to use it.
How long does it take to absorb?
Absorption is very fast, and there's no need to delay getting dressed etc. However, we do suggest that you wait 30 minutes before swimming or bathing after you apply the cream.
If you do use your hands to apply your HRT cream, please wash your hands with soap and warm water after use to prevent accidental ingestion.
