A compounded medication is a drug that is specifically mixed with one or more active ingredients, in specified amounts, and prepared according to a prescription from a doctor.

Compounded medications, such as HRT creams, have a distinct advantage over traditional, manufactured medications in that the active ingredients can be customized to meet a patient's needs. They’re usually prescribed when a medication, dose, or dosage form isn’t commercially available.

Winona's compounding pharmacies are regulated by the Boards of Pharmacy in the individual states in which they are licensed, and they adhere to strict USP 795 and 800 standards. By adhering to safety and quality standards and following a customized protocol, Winona's pharmacies create individualized medications just for you.
