Does DHEA cause acne or anxiety?

Fluctuating hormone levels during the menopause transition can cause an increase in acne or anxiety for some women.

DHEA is a hormone precursor that breaks down in the body as estrogen and testosterone, so adding it to an HRT treatment plan may cause some additional, but temporary, skin and mood changes, similar to the effects of puberty.

Once the body is adjusted to the influx of hormones, any increased acne or anxiety should dissipate.

If either side effect becomes concerning, our Winona doctors can give guidance on how to adjust the dosage of the DHEA to mitigate any symptoms.
